TVEH ANESTHESIA SERVICES
General anesthesia is often necessary to allow diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in our animal patients. This carries an inherent risk which, while low, is increased when a patient is critically ill or elderly. Having dedicated personnel with specialty anesthesia training reduces risk, and can ease the concerns of pet owners when their pet must undergo a medical or surgical procedure. At TVEH, safe, pain-free care for your pet during anesthesia is our priority. Our board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists Deanne Caines and Tasha Bartel oversee the TVEH anesthesia service, working closely with highly-trained technicians to provide optimal care for each pet. The anesthesia service provides anesthesia support for all other services at TVEH, including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Diagnostic Imaging, Critical Care, Cardiology and the Emergency Service.
As a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists, Dr Bartel and Dr Caines are highly trained to evaluate each patient, tailor an anesthetic plan to its unique needs and anticipate any concerns. To help monitor each patient's condition during anesthesia, our anesthesiologists and the anesthesia staff use advanced equipment and support techniques, including electrocardiography (ECG), blood pressure monitoring, pulse oximetry and ventilators. They also make use of local anesthetics, where possible, to reduce or eliminate the need for full general anesthesia.
